Red is considered one of the rarest colors of sea glass. "It originated as red tail lights from when they were still made from glass, glass insulators (one of the rarer insulator colors), ship's lanterns, the sea glass collector's favorite Schlitz ruby red bottle, Fenton's red hobnail glass, wine bottles, carnival glass, decanters, perfume bottles, art glass, and inkwells." (Info from Trace amounts of gold were known to have been used to create the red color, but copper, selenium & manganese were also used. The shade of red depends on the elements used to create it.

50% of the sale of these custom pieces will be donated to Direct Relief to help support medical workers & those on the frontlines of the Covid-19 crisis. I was inspired to make this collection when the city of New York lit the Empire State Building red in solidarity with the first responders fighting the pandemic. Thanks for looking!

- It's ethically sourced.
- It's upcycled, sustainable & eco friendly.
- By wearing sea glass you are showing not only your appreciation for the ocean but for earth friendly jewels as well.
- All the sea glass I use in my jewelry comes from the lovely beaches in western Puerto Rico, mostly Aguada, at the beach near my home.
- Sea glass has history. It takes 20 to 30 years to form, and sometimes as much as 50 years to acquire its characteristic texture and shape. It originates as pieces of glass from broken bottles, broken tableware, or even shipwrecks, which are rolled and tumbled in the ocean for years until all of their edges are rounded off and the slickness of the glass has been worn to a frosted appearance.
- It's a metaphor for life! A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor...or a frosted piece of sea glass.
